The ICHR meets the Chairman of the Social Security Institution
Ramallah – Mr. Mamoun Abu Shahla, Minister of Labor and Chairman of the Social Security Institution (SSI) received Dr. Ammar al-Dwaik, Director General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) in the presence of Mr. Osama Harzallah, Director General of the SSI, Mr. Bilal Zhawaba, Board Member of the SSI and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor, Mr. Samer Salama , Mr. Rami Mahdawi from the Ministry, and Ms. Khadija Zahran, Director of Control over the National Policy and Legislation in ICHR, in order to review the constitutional procedures and preparations for the SSI.
Minister Abu Shahla explained to the ICHR delegation that the preparations for the SSI are in full swing to launch the work according to the law and will start the registration of the beneficiaries and receipt of the contributions according to the time frame set by law, as well as the appointment of the key staff and embark on the development of internal bylaws and regulations.
Minister Abu Shahla also pointed out that work and communications are under way with the Israeli side to collect the rights of Palestinian workers working inside the Green Line, and that the Social Security Institution serves more than one million citizens, which will contribute to supporting the steadfastness of the citizens on their land.
On his part, Dr. Al-Dweik emphasized the need to involve the largest number of possible sectors and related parties in the process of drafting the regulations and bylaws related to the Social Security Fund. He also stressed the need to inform the citizens about the work progress in the preparatory process and that the operations of the SSI cover the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He thanked the Chairman of the SSI Board of Directors, its Director General and the members of the Board of Directors for their efforts in establishing the work of the SSI in accordance with the law.
