February 2017 Report of Human Rights Violation "Summery"

In February 2017, domestic violations continued at a varying pace. This Monthly Report highlights major human rights violations as monitored and documented by the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR). Based on the documentation of encroachments on human rights and public freedoms during the month of February 2017, the ICHR monitored the following violations:

  • Compared to 15 in January 2017, the ICHR monitored 17 incidents of unnatural death in the month of February 2017.
  • In comparison to 55 complaints filed in January, the ICHR received 46 complaints on torture and ill-treatment in February 2017.
  • While 133 complaints were lodged in January, the ICHR received 54 complaints on violations of the right to the due process of law and detention without guarantees of fair trial in February 2017.
  • Compared to 22 complaints filed in January, the ICHR received 24 complaints on governor-ordered detentions in the West Bank in February 2017.
  • Compared to 10 complaint lodged in January, the ICHR received six complaints on unenforced or delayed enforcement of court decisions in February 2017.
  • In comparison to nine in January, the ICHR received five complaints on violations of the freedoms of opinion and expression, the press and peaceful assembly in February 2017.
  • Compared to six in January, the ICHR received three complaints on unwarranted confiscation of private properties in February 2017.
  • In February 2017, the ICHR documented seven death sentences rendered in Gaza. Four death sentences were entered in January.  
  • In comparison to four complaints filed in January, the ICHR received two complaints on attacks on persons and public properties in February 2017.
  • While 11 complaints were lodged in January, the ICHR received six complaints on violations of the right to academic freedom in February 2017.
  • The ICHR received four complaints on violations of the right to freedom of movement and travel.
