ICHR makes an intervention in the UN Human Rights Council

 

Geneva- A seminar on the impact of the US Resolution to consider Jerusalem as the Capital City of Israel on the human rights situation in the occupied Jerusalem was organized recently at the headquarters of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.  Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, in addition to representatives of the civil society organizations, human rights activists, and representatives of the national human rights institutions and agencies participated in the seminar.

 

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) is represented in this seminar by Dr. Varseen Shaheen, Commissioner General of the ICHR and Dr. Ammar Al Dweik, Director General of the ICHR.

 

Dr. Shaheen made an intervention which addressed the risks threatening the rights of the population of Jerusalem as a consequence of the US Resolution.  She warned from the perilous results of the said resolution which affects all aspects related to the rights and freedoms in the city of Jerusalem and at the different legal and political levels. She also warned from the negative impacts which would escalate the occupation aggressions against the established right of the Palestinian that Jerusalem is the Capital City of the State of Palestine.

 

Speakers in the seminar include Dr. Mousa Burayzat, Chairman of the National Centre for Human Rights in Jordan, Mrs. Fafa Zarouki, Chairman of the National Council  for Human Rights in Algeria, Mr. Sultan Al Jamali, Executive Director of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, Chairman of the National Council for Human Rights in Morocco, and Chairman of the Oman Human Rights Commission in Sultanate of Oman, and Mr. Mohamed Fayek, President of the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt.
