ICHR calls for an investigation into mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of a female citizen in Beit Sahur

The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) is following up on the incident involving the death of Isra’ Nasser Yousef Ghrayyeb, a 21-year-old female resident of Beit Sahur, in mysterious circumstances. The ICHR stresses the need to launch an investigation into circumstances of the death.

According to information received by the ICHR, on 22 August 2019, Isra’ arrived dead at the Beit Jala governmental hospital. The Public Prosecution transported the dead body to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy. It was also reported to the ICHR that Isra’ had been admitted to the hospital on 10 August 2019 due to injuries of an unknown source.

Out of its concern for gender-based violence and in light of available information on suspicious circumstances of the death, the ICHR calls on the Public Prosecution to open a thorough investigation into the assault on, and subsequent death of Isra’. The Public Prosecution should not excluded any suspicions of a criminal offence and bring any suspects to justice.
