On Tuesday 1 September 2015 at 12:25, Moamar Jamil Quweider (21 years) from Gaza city swallowed a black substance at the headquarters of the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) in Gaza city and rapidly left the place announcing his determination to commit suicide by swallowing poisonous substance. ICHR employees followed him immediately and called the ambulance, which carried him directly to Ash-Shafa Hospital. He is now in a stable health condition.

It is worth noting that Moamar Quweider submitted a complaint to ICHR two hours before his attempt to commit suicide. In his complaint, he claimed that on 27 August 2015 Gaza Municipality police confiscated the scale he uses to weigh the fruits he sells in Firas Market in Gaza city, arrested him and took him to a special location belonging to the Municipality Police.

In this regard, ICHR expresses its shock in relation to this unprecedented incident in the context of its work in the field of monitoring and documentation of human rights violations. ICHR calls upon the public prosecution to immediately investigate the circumstances of the incident and publicly disseminate the results.

Meanwhile, ICHR is following up this violation with the relevant parties in Gaza Strip.
