ICHR Calls for an Investigation into the Death of Citizen Abdul Majeed Abu Maghsib During Detention

The Independent Commission for Human Rights ( ICHR)  is following the incident involving the death of citizen Abdul Majeed Ibrahim Atwa Abu Maghsib (31 years old), a resident of Deir al-Balah, following his detention by the “Sahm Unit,” affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the Gaza Strip.

According to the information and testimonies monitored by the ICHR, Abu Maghsib was detained on 5 May 2026 from an auto repair workshop in the city of Deir al-Balah by armed men in civilian clothing. During the arrest, he was subjected to severe beating and was subsequently taken to the Middle Area Reform and Rehabilitation Center. The family later discovered that he was in critical condition at Shuhadaa Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. After being transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, his death was announced on 10 May 2026.

Accordingly, the ICHR calls for an urgent, independent, transparent, and criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the detention and death of Mr. Abu Maghsib, including a forensic autopsy in the presence of a representative of the family, and for accountability measures to be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
